M2 DiskMapper
Product Highlights:
The M2 DiskMapper quickly determines the uniformity of magnetic properties immediately after sputtering, offering more rapid feedback for process control. This is critical as advanced heads are more sensitive to variations in media properties than previous generations of heads. Tighter control of the uniformity of the media properties is also more important in the yield of disk drives.
DescriptionThe M2 DiskMapper supplies full disk magnetic measurements. The system can simultaneously read both sides of the disk while capturing 192 data points in less than one minute. The M2 DiskMapper will quickly and accurately map the remanence thickness product, Mrt, remanence coercivity, Hr, and coercive squareness, S*. Three tracks and 32 sectors are measured on each side and displayed. The average peak-to-peak and standard deviation of the measured parameters are also calculated. The tool is able to read Mrt values as low as 0.1 memu / cm² (10 Gauss-micrometer) and Hr values up to 6000 Oersteds depending on configuration. This allows these systems to be used for the most advanced media and provides a tool that exceeds any current production requirements. Sputtering Process ControlThe information is displayed as control charts within a lot as well as individual disk and palette maps. This allows users to determine the uniformity of their sputter process within a lot, across a single disk and within a palette. The system maps the Mrt, Hr, and S* values for both the front and back sides. Also shown are the variations of the Mrt, Hr, and S* values for the Outer Diameter (OD), Middle Diameter (MD), and Inner Diameter (ID) tracks. Optional graphs include all sectors versus Write Current, the data for a single sector, parameter map for the front and back side of the disk or a graph displaying how parameters vary from sector to sector. In each of these graphs, the user decides which parameter will be displayed: Mrt, Hr, or S*. Using the built-in remote file management utilities, process engineers can have access to the data from their desktops. This provides for more convenience and therefore more rapid use of the data to maintain process control. Dual ModesThe M2 DiskMapper has two modes of operation; a production mode permits limited operator access to advanced tools and control, as determined by the process engineer. This can be as limited as stop-start or allow more extensive parameter selection. In the password-protected engineering mode, a broad array of analytical and diagnostic tools are available to provide insight into the sputter line. Non-ContactBy using full automation, the M2 DiskMapper does not damage the media being tested and minimizes labor costs. This also allows tested media to remain in the production line thereby reducing the cost of testing.
